  • Notes
    • Rev Ralph Cudworth was a Fellow of Emanuel College, Cambridge and a lecturer at St Andrews. He
was Rector of Aller in Somerset. Ralph married Mary Machell, the nurse of Prince Henry of England.
She is a descendant of the Chiefton Ulf de Catulino of 1100. Rev. Ralph became Chaplain to the
      English King in 1607.
The Records of the Cudworth Family sort out the several Ralphs of this line. The name is spelled
Rauf. The citation gives a succession of Rauf Cudworths 5, 6, 7, and 8. The one marrying Mary
Machell is Rauf 7, and was the father of James Cudworth of American fame.
This man was born shortly after his father's death, and after September 14, 1572 when his father's
      will was probated.
